Revere senior earns spot on All-American team
A Revere High School senior soccer player has earned a spot to play on this year’s All-American Soccer Team after leading his team to a 15-2-2 record this season.
Senior soccer player Daniel Branch is one of six players in Ohio that has earned a spot on the All-American Team this year. Branch expressed his reaction when he heard the news of making the team.
“I was really surprised and excited. It was a goal of mine at the beginning of the season, and it feels good to have achieved that goal,” Branch said.
Branch also named former soccer coach Sandor Jakab as a main factor for the success he has had so far in his soccer career.
“Coach Jakab has been a great influence for me my entire life in soccer. From the time I was little I can remember him helping me out and teaching me how to get better, especially throughout high school,” Branch said.
Revere High School’s head Men’s Soccer coach Nick DePompei explained what he thinks is Branch’s greatest aspect of playing.
“[Branch] has two things that are really going for him. [First one] his physical abilities. He is unbelievably fast, it is just a different level of different gears, as other coaches have said about him. Second to that is his vision of the field. He sees things a whole lot faster than other players, so he is able to move physically faster than anybody and he is able to score goals and set his teammates up,” DePompei said.
DePompei also described how he sees Branch as a soccer player.
“[Branch] is very intelligent, calculated [and] can read the game. He is always thinking about where he can move to open space on the field to be successful. He is a very fun player to watch,” DePompei said.
Branch’s brother and sophomore soccer player William Branch expressed his thoughts of his brother making the team. He believed that his brother had a good chance at making the team and is excited that Branch will play in the game.
William also talked about how Branch would dedicate his time to soccer.
“[Branch] would always go outside and practice juggling during the summer and play with his friends when he did not have any games,” William said.
The All-American game took place on December 5 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The game involved a total of 40 kids, 20 on each team. Branch is still currently undecided on playing soccer in college.
