Athletic Director plans continued involvement in athletics

Bill Schumacher

Athletic Director

If you could put a “senior quote” in Lantern, what would it be?

“Fearlessly be yourself, and carpe diem. Every day is important, keep it simple and don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the moments because your high school years are going to be over in a heartbeat. I would never trade my time for anything. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve done, and I look forward to watch you all play as a spectator.”
Why did you choose Revere?
“Five years ago, I came here from Chagrin, where I was assistant principal and athletic director. I had just won a national award for athletics in the state of Ohio. It really made me reflect, and realize I wanted to end my career as an athletic director. I was fortunate enough to get the job here at Revere, and five years later, here we are.”

What was your favorite experience at Revere?
“I ran a sports camp, and I had a kid there who was heavyset, but he worked hard. He kept working hard, and he kept getting better and better. His father was a thin, runner type guy, and he would always browbeat the kid. I was athletic director, and they gave me a thousand dollars to give to a student for a scholarship. So I gave it to this kid, and he sent me a note years later saying how much that meant to him. He said that made him feel like people really looked at the value of athletics.”

Where do you plan to take your first vacation?
“My sister lives in Vermont, and she is always coming in to visit me here, so I thought it would be nice to go and see her for a change. I also have relatives in Massachusetts, so it will be good to see them again.”
What are your retirement plans?
“I will still be involved with the OHSAA and the Northeast District Athletic Board. I am also the Awards chair for the State Athletic Directors Association, and I am teaching a class in athletic administration at Notre Dame College, so I will have a lot to keep me busy.”

Maxine Roten
Guidance Secretary

What has been the best part about working at Revere?
“It’s always exciting when you hear where students are going, and they are so happy about it. Hearing about the staff, who is getting married and having children, that can be exciting. The kids have always been a lot of fun. It’s nice talking to the younger kids and figuring out how they think.”
If you could put a “senior quote” in Lantern, what would it be?
“Follow your dreams. Don’t be afraid to do something. If it seems like a good thing and you want to do it, do it. Just remember that everything you do has a consequence, good or bad.”
Where is your first vacation planned ?
“I’m going down to see my grandkids in North Carolina, then I’m going down to Florida, then I’m going on a cruise.”
What are your retirement plans?

“I really don’t have any real plans yet, other than to sleep in a few days . . . I just want to chill out and work on my yard.”

Counselor plans trips, volunteering post-retirement

Linda Weigand
Guidance Counselor

How does Revere compare to other schools?
“There is a reason why Revere is identified as an excellent school. The parents sent kids here who are willing to work, ready to excel. There is such minimal nonsense going on, class disruptions, students being out of control [and] I think it’s just that combination of parents ready to help and students ready to work, along with a staff that is so inviting is what makes Revere so great.”
What was the most exciting thing about working at Revere?
“The most exciting part of working in the guidance department was being able to impact and work with students and having students realize there is an advocate for them. [That there is] somebody who is willing to help them [and] that helping relationship that I have found is so empowering.”
Where do you plan to take your first vacation?
“I’ve planned a couple trips. The first one will probably be to Costa Rica, somewhere in Central [or] South America.”
What are your retirement plans?
“To enjoy time with my two granddaughters, have fun spending time with then. Also, I would like to find the things that I have left undone and find some areas to volunteer and make a difference.”
