Revere Dance Team plans to perform throwback routines
The Revere High School dance team plans to perform routines that display popular dances from different decades during halftime at the men’s basketball games.
The dance team includes Nicaela Schultz, Taylor Clark, Arista Alexander, Hannah Wilson, Jessica Ni and Evie Solis. Veronica Moss, coach of the Varsity dance team and a language teacher at RMS, wants to dedicate most of this dance season to dancing through the decades; however, the six girls will learn a modern dance to start out with. Moss explained her plans for the performances.
“My idea for the whole season is dancing through the decades. We are going to do a modern one to start out with then [one from the] 70s, 80s and 90s. I listened to a ton of music this summer and picked some that I liked. I researched popular dances from each decade and tried to make it authentic while gearing it towards [the girls’] ability,” Moss said.
The team practices two days a week, but the girls are required to practice on their own as well. Ashley Londrico, a Revere graduate and the new assistant coach, helps Moss with getting everything organized. Londrico stated her responsibilities as assistant coach.
“I help with attendance, orders, getting costumes ready and choreography. Basically, whatever Mrs. Moss needs I help out with. I am her sidekick. I am going to be in charge of one dance towards the end of the season. It’s going to be a country line dance,” Londrico said.
In addition, the girls will perform a holiday dance and pom-pom routine. The team plans to find or make accessories to make their traditional dance uniform more unique. Sophomore Hannah Wilson described the details of the holiday and pom-pom dances.
“Our pom routine is to ‘Don’t Stop the Party’ (by Pitbull). Our Christmas dance is to ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ (by Mariah Carey). I like the pom routine because I like dancing to faster songs. I like the Christmas costumes better because they are red dresses, not pants,” Wilson said.
The dance team’s first performance of the season took place on Tuesday, December 10th.
