Revere implements new college preparation program

The Revere Local School District has instituted Naviance, a college and career readiness program that helps students prepare for opportunities after high school this past August.

Nick DePompei, Naviance site administrator for Revere and school guidance counselor, described how Naviance is helpful.
“Naviance is a platform for college and career choice, and [students] can research choices for post-secondary options,” DePompei said.

The website for Naviance is naviance.com, and students use it to view their college options, send college transcripts, and apply for scholarships. Students can send applications and transcripts to the school guidance counselor for review. Students can also track their college admission status.

Students have had some issues with using the program, but teacher and Naviance assistant Brandon Decker noted that it will not be a problem.

“With the integration of any new program there are always going to be issues that come up. Everyone has to understand that it is a work in progress and everyone involved is working hard to have seamless integration,” Decker said.

Teacher assistant Jennifer Exten is also confident that the program will be successful.

“I think once the program is used to its full capacity and everyone has had time to learn Naviance, the response will be positive,” Exten said.

DePompei said Naviance makes communication with colleges easier for students.

“It’s a good communication tool, all information is sent directly to a student’s email, and it can be accessed through the Naviance app,” DePompei said.

The Naviance app can be purchased for most devices to help students access Naviance on the go.
