Band qualifies for state competition
The Revere Marching Band has implemented new aspects to their normal routine in hopes of earning a Superior rating at this year’s state competition.
With the Friday night halftime shows winding down, the band will continue performing for this year’s state competition. State level judges will watch and rate marching band performances. The performances are rated one to five, with one being a Superior rating. To qualify, bands must compete at local events and earn at least four Superior and three Excellent ratings at these events.
Under the direction of Darren Lebeau, the band has made changes in order to better appeal to the judges.
“We are departing from the normal style by incorporating body moves and telling the story of the wicked queen of Snow White,” Lebeau said.
Jacob Taylor, a Revere graduate and former band member, now acts as the marching band’s visual director. Taylor commented on the show titled “Fairest of All.”
“The show is a lot more difficult than shows in years past. It is more intricate and involved,” Taylor said.
Senior Brandon Barnett noted how much time has gone towards the state performance.
“We practice every day during school and on Saturdays before performances….Practice consists of working on the music and marching style and making the formations that appear on the page,” Barnett said.
The band has also prepared for this fall and the state competition by attending a summer camp. Lebeau commented on what was accomplished at the camp.
“[The camp] started in August and was a full week working on music and marching,” Lebeau said.
The Revere marching band appeared in front of the nine state level judges on November 9th in Brunswick and received an Excellent rating.
