The Red Bull team announced their 2025 spring edition, a new energy drink that releases for a limited time every March, had the flavor pink grapefruit and woodruff. It finally released on March 3, 2025 and has been sold out at multiple locations.
Curiosity piqued when Red Bull announced their 2025 spring flavor, woodruff, also known as Galium Odoratum or bedstraw. It is an herb that is a member of the coffee family that many people are unfamiliar with. The flavor of it consists of a sweet vanilla, cardamom and cinnamon flavor that helps dilute the grapefruit’s usual bitter flavor. Also because of the woodruff, the usual energy drink flavor found in the original also dilutes the flavor, leaving no strange aftertaste.
For the presentation, Red Bull decided that a pastel purple color of the can was a favorable choice for the spring edition. Since pastel colors are intriguing, the popularity of the beverage rose just from the beverage’s can color. When people see the color purple they usually associate it with grape, a widely opposed flavor, but since the flavor is grapefruit and woodruff it appeals to the consumer more because of its nontraditional blend of flavors.
Red Bull uses the lowest amount of caffeine compared to other popular energy drink brands, pink grapefruit and woodruff included. Red Bull has around 80 mg of caffeine in the small can and 114 mg in the large can, this is lower than their competitors Monster (160 mg), Celsius (200mg), Alani Nutrition (200 mg) and Bang Energy (300 mg).
Overall, Red Bull has successfully created a refreshing and tasty beverage for the upcoming spring season. When in stock, this new drink sells at gas stations and convenience stores around the local area, or it can be ordered online. The discontinuation of this drink will happen during early summer, but It may come back as a permanent flavor later in the future like how they did with the past spring editions.
