Whether it is a theatrical or musical endeavor, a place in student leadership, or just their academics, most high school students find themselves engaged in some activity. They take on their activity of choice and learn to balance it with the rest of their life. Bane Thurman does all of the above without sacrificing his utmost effort.
Senior Bane Thurman is many things. He is Revere Players Co-President; the lead in the fall play Treasure Island, where he will play Jim Hawkins; Revere Players’ League of Leaders representative; and a member of the bass section in Revere’s Chorale.
Despite his numerous commitments, not one of them lacks his complete effort. Thurman attributes this to his work ethic.
“I’m always just giving one hundred percent, giving my very best effort. That’s what I do and that’s what I’ve always done,” Thurman said.
This commitment to excellence is evident in his willingness to go above and beyond in all his endeavors, academic or otherwise.
His unique and creative approach to tasks, such as last year’s Comp English 11 where he dressed as a radish for a presentation about gardening, showcases his ability to think outside of the box. Joseph Susick, the teacher who assigned the project has witnessed numerous examples of this ability.
“He goes above and beyond, puts 125% into almost everything he does,” Susick said
Beyond his academic achievements, Thurman’s leadership qualities have also been instrumental in his success. He thrives in leadership roles, inspiring his peers with enthusiasm and dedication. This has been especially prevalent with his involvement with Revere Players, in which he has been a large contributor since his freshman year.
“Bane is a natural leader who has a unique ability to inspire and motivate others…His dedication to his goals and his willingness to go above and beyond are truly remarkable,” Players Director Sarah Pine said.
In addition to his leadership roles in Players, Bane is also an accomplished actor. His talent and passion for the stage have earned him recognition and admiration from teachers and peers alike.
“He’s always really been very focused on wanting to kind of improve that organization and see what things we can be doing to help kind of raise the bar,” Pine said.
Not only is he focused on improving the Revere Players organization, but he is also focused on improving himself and expanding his skill set.
He joined Revere’s choir program last year, as a member of the bass section in that year’s Symphonic Choir. Not having any experience in high school choir before, Thurman had to quickly learn and adapt to keep up. Revere’s High School choir director, Sierra Pabon has watched this choral development from its beginning.
“He is extremely quick to hear feedback, absorb it, and make the best effort at applying the feedback in the very moment,” Pabon said.
Outside of his musicianship, Pabon has also noticed the same passion and commitment his other teachers have.
“Bane has a passion and a commitment to everything he does. He wants to do it to the best of his capacity and his potential, and I think that is what sets him apart and gives him the opportunity to be fully committed to so many things,” Pabon said.
As Thurman continues to excel in his academic and extracurricular pursuits, his peers and teachers look for inspiration and drive. His dedication, leadership, and talent make him a rising star who is sure to make a positive impact on his community and beyond.
With his senior year underway, Thurman intends to strike out on his own as an actor after high school.
