Each year at high schools around the United States, students elect one of their peers to represent their grade. Typically, the elected student is charismatic and well-liked among their peers. At Revere High School (RHS), this position is titled Class Council President. In Revere’s 2024-2025 school year, the senior class elected Macie for the fourth year in a row.
Macie Lehman has been the Class Council President for her grade since freshman year. Over this time, she has gained valuable experience and built strong relationships with many students and teachers. This has allowed her to become an impressive leader. Lehman said that she is interested in some sort of leadership role in the future and that Class Council has helped her prepare for this potential position. She has also gained some valuable life skills while in this role, and has grown as a leader during the three and more years of high school.
“Class Council has helped me deal with people, just having organization skills, as well, time management skills… as well as fundraising, something I was never familiar with until Class Council,” Lehman said.
Fundraising has been a big part of Lehman’s job as class president in the past. For senior year, Macie has plans to change the fundraising methods to include the students more, such as Fall Fun Day. This shifts the fundraising spotlight off money.
“This year we’re doing more fundraising that’s student involved…we did Fall Fun Day…[and] it’s more turned into just having a day for the school to feel like kids again, and we just ended up making money off of it. So our fundraising kind of changed more towards student-based rather than just money-based,” Lehman said.
RHS principal Doug Faris has been helping Lehman with Class Council throughout high school. Faris is happy with the job she has done in the past four years, and he thinks her success speaks for itself.
“She’s [been] elected four times in a row by her peers, [and] that says pretty much everything you need to know. She is a hands-on, fearless leader who does an amazing job of getting people together, communicating, [and] she has tons of ideas about fundraising. She’s done an amazing job over the past four years,” Faris said.
Faris also described the job of the class president, explaining the decisions Lehman gets to make and how well she handled them. Faris said she has been consistent and responsible with her job.
“As class president, you’re often put in the spotlight, so Macie will and has assumed a lot of responsibilities along with her other Class Council members… she’s a very powerful young lady,” Faris said.
Jenna Repp, the Senior Class Council adviser, said that Lehman has made a good impression on her so far in senior year. Repp also complimented her work ethic and ability to get things done.
“This short time that I’ve worked with Macie in this capacity as senior president, she’s shown that she’s motivated and driven, and can get things done,” Repp said.
Repp also said that Lehman, along with the other Class Council members prepare events for their class and Lehman’s organized way of handling these events is impressive.
“She’s already planned, with the help of her fellow Class Council [officers], the Fall Fun Day and [she] organized the Senior Sunrise, and she seems very organized, task oriented, and [good at] finding a way to make things happen,” Repp said.
Macie Lehman has excelled at her job as Class President in the past, and senior year looks to be the same. She has fundraising plans and is building useful skills for future leadership positions. Along with accumulating experience, she’s built solid relationships through her work ethic.
