Revere alumni start video production company

Recent graduates Andrew Charara and Matt Harris continually shift around the recording studio at Revere High School preparing for the different aspects of filming the move. As they work through the nuances involved in filming, they realize the amount of dedication and teamwork that is required to put together such a detailed project.

ACE PRODUCTIONS is a video production company that makes short films and takes on small time projects. Harris and Charara conceived the company when they were brainstorming for projects to pursue. They often times discussed future television series ideas and film ideas that they could potentially develop. Building on this, they decided to make a few short films. Harris took Video Productions with Revere English teacher Nick Kos during his 10th grade year, and Charara took it the following year in 11th grade. The company really started developing Harris and Charara’s senior year as they started getting more ideas for their films.

Harris discussed how they developed the idea for the project.

“[Charara] and I have a very like mindset when it comes to filming and ideas. Over the course of our friendship we noticed our similar interests in film. We would come up with exciting ideas when hanging out and eventually put them to paper,” Harris said.

Kos discussed the projects that he had supervised thus far.

“They have made 3 short movies, ISIS Takeover, ISIS Takeover II: The Final Chapter, and Possession of a Paraplegic. Two of the films were action and adventure movies. The films have stuck by the action and adventure genre due to that genre of film being in their capabilities. Possession of a Paraplegic was a silent horror movie,” Kos said.

Charara also mentioned other members of the ACE PRODUCTIONS team who were critical to the release of their films, particularly their later features.

“On the second ISIS Takeover, we worked closely with Executive Producer Travis Bondra. Also our close friend Mitchell Godding served the position of Lighting Assistant and Boom Boy,” Charara said.

As this was the first time that Harris and Charara had created films, they found an experienced advisor to help them bring their visions to reality. Harris touched upon their primary advisor for the film.

“Kos advised us by allowing us to use the equipment and the school and by giving feedback on filming ideas and techniques,” Harris said.

Charara touched upon what he learned from his experience working on the creation and direction of films.

“Making movies is not easy. [The films] took a great deal of time and dedication. I learned about efficiency by having a tight time schedule, and sticking to it. Responsibility is also something I learned throughout this process. You have to make sure you keep up with your duties, and do not fall through with your commitments. I also learned a lot about being a part of a team,” Charara said.

Charara also talked about his favorite memory from ACE PRODUCTIONS.

“My favorite memories came down to a couple things. First off, I loved being with all of my friends in the studio broadcasting the morning announcements on a daily basis. Also, the day of the premiere party for ISIS Takeover II: The Final Chapter was an incredible time, as friends and family all gathered around to watch the first showing of the movie. It was quite the experience,” Charara said.

Charara and Harris hope to patent the company soon. They also plan to do some local film work in the near future. They plan on filming a wedding this summer.
