Football coach takes over as ALC coordinator
Lyle Kniep, an Ohio State University graduate, pondered his occupation in Columbus with intentions to work for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His close friend, Revere High School Lacrosse Coach Nick Pappas, notified him of a job opening as a boy’s football coach for Revere High School. Kniep applied for the opening and started immediately. As time went on, and his relationship with other students grew, a position as Alternative Learning Center (ALC) coordinator opened. Phil King, RHS principal, offered him the position. Kniep accepted and looks forward to working with students.
Kniep took the role of ALC coordinator for the 2014-2015 school year. He also acts as Junior Varsity and freshman football coach and as coach of the varsity’s defensive line. Kniep took the position regarding football the autumn of 2012. He explained why he enjoys coaching football.
“Football is different form all other sports because it is a true team sport,” Kniep said.
Superintendent Randy Boroff explained that “ALC [provides remediation opportunities] for students who need extra help or get in trouble.”
Kniep voiced a comparison of his coaching position and his new coordinator position. He talked of the similarities concerning making sure that students complete their work. He added that he watches to make sure students do not fall behind. Kniep explained how his coaching relates to ALC coordinator.
“[My]coaching background [helps] with ALC because I can understand situations,” Kniep said.
Vice Principal John Evans talked of what Kniep does outside of ALC. He voiced Kniep’s willingness to help out when no kids go to an ALC session.
