RHS holds annual program for veterans

Revere High school held a Veterans Day assembly to honor those from the surrounding community who served in the armed forces.

Revere High School offered a complimentary breakfast for all veterans at 9:15. Then all guests, students, and staff gathered into the gymnasium for the assembly. The guest speaker for the assembly this year was Dr. William Moats, a Revere graduate and also a graduate from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. In 1966 Moats was drafted by the United States Army. He served as the Brigade Surgeon for the 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division of the army in Vietnam. Principal Phil King also spoke at the assembly. RHS Intervention specialist, Jack Cooper, has been organizing this event for thirteen years at RHS. Cooper noted how the students behave during this assembly.

“Our students always honor our guests, and are very respectful,” Cooper said.

RHS history teacher, Jeff Fry, presented the POW section of the assembly. Fry noted that this is without a doubt the most important assembly Revere could ever have. Fry claims that having this assembly is appropriate to commemorate, giving Revere a chance to be thankful.

“The least we can do is have a nice way to honor and appreciate those who risked their lives for the rest of us. Honoring soldiers and their families for their services, nothing could be more important than that,” Fry said.

Robert Krisch is a science teacher at RHS and also a veteran. Krisch served with a tank unit, as a combat medic, and also trained several thousand troops.

“Once a veteran, you’re a veteran for life. Being a veteran is something you put on your gravestone,” Krisch said.

Krisch noted the significance of holding events like the Veterans Day assembly.

“It is important to honor veterans in this manor because there will always be wars, sacrifice, and loss around us,” Krisch said.

This year’s annual Veterans Day assembly took place on November 11th, at 10 am in the RHS gymnasium.
