Women’s golf acquires new coach

The women’s Varsity golf team has welcomed new coach, Kyle Haglock, an intervention specialist at the high school; he joins Cynthia Gobrogge, who is in her eighth year of coaching Junior Varsity golf.

Senior Kelly Scheetz, a second-year player to the Varsity golf team, commented on Haglock as a coach.

“He helps with our mechanics, and he’s helping to improve our game,” Scheetz said.

The Junior Varsity team is very young this year and consists of brand new golfers. Samantha Ma, a freshman, is playing on the Varsity team this year. Gobrogge spoke about her and her performance.

“She’s really taken on a leadership role in the sense that she will step up, and golf varsity when we need her to, and she actually does very well when she’s golfing with the Varsity team,” Gobrogge said.

Haglock also spoke about how her, and how she has contributed the Varsity team.

“Her score helped us out a lot. She’s doing a great job,” Haglock said.

Gobrogge spoke about their goals and how to grow as a team.

“Our goal is to learn the basic fundamentals of the game and the golfing technique, and just gaining the experience. They are improving every time we go out and golf,” Gobrogge said.

Senior Lauren Price has golfed for her entire high school career. She discussed some obstacles they have to overcome while golfing.

“Sometimes when you go out on the course, you’re nervous. You want to play well mentally,” Price said.

Scheetz elaborated on Price’s statement.

“We all get in our heads, more than anything else. It’s not physical, it’s mental,” Scheetz said.

Kyle Haglock shared his thoughts on the team and their commitment to the sport.

“I am proud of their commitment and the effort and job they’ve done. I hope they understand that I do appreciate what they’ve done this year, and I’m proud,” Haglock said.

The seniors on the team this year include Olivia Giltner, Lauren Price, Lauren Sadataki, Lily Sadataki and Kelly Scheetz.
