Homecoming dance follows football game

The Revere High School football team faced Theodore Roosevelt High School for the 2016 homecoming game, followed by homecoming dance the next day.

The theme of this year’s dance was Autumn in New York. Adviser to the student council and RHS guidance counselor Jennifer Kirchner spoke about how the theme was chosen. She said that the student council brainstormed 10 different themes and then voted on one.

To create the autumn atmosphere, the student council members purchased props from the North Coast Theatrical Company. Kirchner elaborated more on the process of setting up the dance.

“[We went to the] North Coast Theatrical Company to get some of the bigger props and we were in 3 Saturdays painting and making signs,” Kirchner said.

Vice president of student council Ellie Edwards explained where the student council members worked while setting up the dance and how they divided the areas.

“[The areas were] the entry way, the teachers’ lounge, the hallway in the gym, the gym and the hallway outside of the gym . . . Each officer was in charge of a certain area some of them in charge of two. I was in charge of two and then everyone showed up and we delegated them to certain areas,” Edwards said.

Kirchner mentioned how other clubs and other students helped with the dance.

“We asked the national art society student members to come for some of the artwork and had the kids in robotics or engineering classes help with some of the structural things,” Kirchner said.

On Thursday, September 22 the members of the homecoming court were announced. The freshman representatives were Kyle Fink and Grace Boyle. The sophomores were Julia Effinger and Samuel York. The juniors were Phillip Scherbakov and Maya Kelly. The senior representatives were Nathan Albert, Matthew Giltner, Noah Sigsworth, Zane VanFossen, Jake Kahoe, Constantine Papas, Audrey Harding, Erin Kahoe, Emily Brock, Lilly Brock and Ally Charara.

After the assembly on Monday, September 25, the court members took pictures. Senior football player Jake Kahoe explained his responsibilities as a court member.

“On Monday after we were chosen we had to take pictures. On the day of the game I was different because I was actually playing so I did not do anything before the game. The people who were not playing, cheering or in the band had to go to the library to pick up their corsages and take pictures beforehand,” Kahoe said.

Jake Kahoe and Harding were crowned king and queen. Previous Queen Ashley Oakley crowned Harding while co-student council presidents Courtney McClellan and Simona Jasova crowned Jake Kahoe. Harding expressed her thoughts on being chosen for homecoming queen.

“I would have been happy if it was anyone else in our group. I was surprised and so excited,” Harding said.
The homecoming game took place on September 30 against Theodore Roosevelt High School. Revere won 28-14. The dance took place on October 1 from 8-11 PM.
